Cotehele was the ancestral home to the Edgcumbe family for centuries.
Outside, there are some fabulous walks, including an easy circular walk through the woodland, with river views.
Look out for the Chapel-in-the-Wood! It marks the spot where Richard Edgcumbe I made a narrow escape from King Richard III’s men in 1483.
Take a picnic and enjoy it at the Quay, where the ’Shamrock’, built in 1889, is presently berthed, waiting for restoration.
The gardens are open all year.
