Built for the 3rd Earl of Carlisle and taking over 100 years to complete, today Castle Howard remains home to the Howard family. Discover the rich and varied history, dramatic interiors and sweeping parklands of this magnificent house.
Free flowing tours of the house allow you to explore at your leisure, with friendly and knowledgeable guides throughout. From decadent bedrooms and lavish drawing rooms to the stunning Great Hall and vast Long Gallery, there are architectural wonders and world-renowned collections in every room.
Spend a day exploring the beautiful gardens; with meandering woodland paths, lakeside terraces and sweeping vistas dotted with temples, statues and follies.
Enjoy a changing programme of exhibitions and events, including Christmas opening when the house is decorated for the festive season. Plus free outdoor tours, illustrated children’s trail, adventure playground and summer boat trips on the Great Lake (weather permitting). The Gardens are open daily from 10am until 4pm; The Courtyard shops, facilities and Garden Centre are open daily, admission free; The House reopens for the new season on Saturday 30th March 2019.
