Perfect base for family days out in the Shropshire Hills AONB. Picnic by the stream and paddle in summer. There’s a great choice of beautiful walks starting from the National Trust Centre. Arm yourself with maps and set off to discover the geology, archaeology and wildlife of the Long Mynd.
If it’s a clear night and the family are interested in stargazing, why not plan a visit after dark? There are four spots across the valley and hill that have been designated Dark Sky Discovery Sites due to their degree of darkness. It is possible to see the Milky Way from all four locations. Look out for Stars in Your Skies events – a great way to get started with stargazing.
Please see the National Trust’s website to find out more.

The stream in Carding Mill Valley itself was great for kids and there is plenty of space for picnics nearby. We climbed to the top of the Lond Mynd and the views were amazing but it might be a bit much for young children. Definitely one for a fine day.
