Museums at Night

Discover the magic of the museums by visiting during the Museums at Night event from Wednesday 17th to Saturday 20th May 2017. A fabulous family event with different activities and special events at top UK museums tailored for different age groups. (Museums at Night also runs in October from Thursday 26th – Saturday 28th 2017 and some events book up early so check back to book for the end of the year).

Museums at Night is an opportunity for museums, historic spaces and galleries to come together and open their doors to an evening of special events where visitors can get involved, delve deeper into fascinating subjects and perhaps enjoy a cocktail or two with friends (that one’s for you parents).

Events vary between gallery gigs, art happenings, twilight screenings, all-night sleepovers, nature walks, star gazing or simply just experience some of the UK’s cultural venues, historic houses and museums in a new (dark) light.

During the festival families will be able to attend some city-wide events as many cities open their doors to special events such as Manchester After Hours which takes you on a nocturnal journey around the city (Thursday 18th May only).

Whilst in Liverpool the Light Night late night arts festival will be taking place on Friday 19th May where there are more than 100 free events. You can follow your own trail of light projections, exhibitions, performances, talks, walks, tours and hands-on activities for all ages.

If you’re in London there will be over 30 museums and galleries open for you to visit with the kids. From National Trust properties, museums and galleries, to quirky spaces and hidden gems – Museums at Night will make you feel like you are being let in on the secrets of  the city.

One to book in advance is the Dino Snores at the Natural History Museum, it doesn’t coincide with the Museums at Night schedule but is a very popular event that books up months in advance. Available each month, and from July you’ll be among the first to be able to camp under the spectacular blue whale skeleton in the newly redeveloped Hintze Hall. It’s £120 for one child aged 7 – 11 years old plus one adult accompaniment.
