The Fossil Swamp - Exhibition at National Museum Cardiff details...

Open 18 May - 2 Mar

Travel back 300 million years at National Museum Cardiff’s long-running exhibition and learn about the huge tropical swamp that covered what is now Wales. Subject to floods and thunderstorms, this swamp was home to huge plants and giant insects.

See wonderfully preserved fossils to discover more about these ancient tropical wetlands. Study the remains of unfamiliar plants which were around millions of years before the evolution of flowers and fruits. What strange creatures will you discover lurking in the depths of the swamp?

The large 3D centrepiece, Stigmaria, is one of the fossils on display that come from the heritage site at Brymbo in North East Wales. Also, find out about the experts who have worked out how these prehistoric plants survived. The exhibition will also highlight how the history of the fossil swamp links to the fossil fuel and climate issues of today.

Please see the website of Amgueddfa Cymru to confirm all details before visiting.
