Silverdale Hoard at Jorvik details...

Open 8 Feb - 8 Feb

Delve into history when you visit Jorvik in North Yorkshire this year. One of the largest Viking hoards ever discovered in the UK has been loaned to JORVIK Viking Centre in York by Lancashire County Museum Service.

The exhibition that is running until 8th February 2023 will reveal the Silverdale Hoard. Discovered in a lead container in Lancashire, the Silverdale Hoard comprises of over 200 pieces of silver rings, hacksilver and coins of Anglo-Saxon, Viking and Arabic origin.

The hoard provides a fascinating window into 900AD when in Britain there was intense conflict between the Anglo Saxons and the Danes in the north of England, and a time when the trading town of Jorvik was at its peak.
