This summer, there’s so much to do at the National Coal Mining Museum you may need to visit twice! Up at Hope Pit, grab your bucket and spade and travel back in time to the 1960s to see how miners spent their summer holidays. Dig deep and uncover a summer of fun, enjoying beach games and learning what a treat it was to go on holiday.
Take the underground tour and travel 140m below the surface with a miner as your guide. Stay awhile longer in the Museum and visit the Hope Pit site. The giant sandpit with deckchairs and buckets and spades is waiting for you, plus fairground rides (fee applies) and different seaside themes each weekend throughout the summer!
FREE entry and free parking, open 10am until 5pm daily, during school holidays it is advised that you to arrive early to book your tour places, as the underground tours are often all fully booked up by midday.
