Roman Snail Trail at Chedworth Roman Villa details...

Open 25 May - 2 Jun

One of the places to go in Gloucestershire this May half term is Chedworth Roman Villa, which is celebrating one of its famous residents! So take the family along to find out about the Roman Snail, Helix pomatia. Discover how it is believed to have been transported here by the Romans as a source of food nearly two thousand years ago. Study its shell up close and have a go at snail-themed games and puzzles.

On selected dates visitors will also have the opportunity to chat to Chedworth’s ’Snail Champions’, who have been studying the snails at the Villa. Did you know they are a protected species? Keep a look out for snails as you explore the site, but if you are lucky enough to spot one don’t touch it.

Please see the National Trust’s website to confirm details before travelling.
