May Day Merriment at Chiltern Open Air Museum details...

Open 5 May - 6 May

For a great day out over the early May Bank Holiday weekend, take the family to join in the Chiltern Open Air Museum’s Elizabethan May Day event. Visitors can look forward to plenty of merriment with dancing, gunpowder, swordplay, a living history encampment and more. A great way to bring the past to life!

Join the Suffolk Free Company and Myal Pyper for a taste of the lives and festivities of the Elizabethan era. See the May Tree being prepared and then enjoy music and dancing around it. Noise is necessary to awaken spring so there will also be displays of fire power, a military drill for new recruits from the audience and the chance to watch fine swordsmanship. Find out about crafts and what was eaten and drunk at the time as you explore the encampment.

Activities are weather dependent and subject to change.

Please see Chiltern Open Air Museum’s website to find out more and book your tickets in advance.
