King Alfred and Somerset Day at Avalon Archaeology details...

Open 11 May

Join re-enactment group Draca Beorder at Avalon Archaeology near Glastonbury for children’s activities exploring life in Saxon Somerset. It is a great way to celebrate Somerset Day, which marks Alfred the Great’s call to arms before fighting the Viking invaders.

Dress up like a Saxon ready for a selfie in the longhall, strike an Alfred coin, practise writing in the style of King Alfred and follow the Alfred Art Trail. In addition visitors can see the reconstructed Roman dining room and Anglo-Saxon longhall. A reconstructed Iron Age roundhouse and Viking ship are still under construction.

Please see the website of South West Heritage Trust for further details.
