Half Term Workshops at the Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre details...

Open 16 Feb - 24 Feb

Add the Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre to your list of places to go with the kids in Buckinghamshire this February half term. The programme of events includes lots of exciting workshops.

Also, February half term is one of your last chances to grab a selfie with the Museum’s statue of President Trump! The statues of Matilda Wormwood and President Trump arrived last October. They are part of a nationwide celebration marking the 30th anniversary of the publication of Matilda. The statue of the President will leave the Museum early in March, whilst Matilda will remain throughout 2019.

So find out what’s on and take the family to join in the fun.

Mini Norwegian Landscapes – 16th February

Make a brilliant 3D landscape inspired by Roald Dahl’s childhood trips to Norway. Use lots of marvellous materials to fill your own tray; make tremendous trees out of twigs or shimmering lakes out of cellophane. Or take inspiration from your childhood memories to create your own special scene – anything goes! Times: 11.30am, 12.30pm, 2pm and 3pm. Cost: £3 per participant plus Museum entry.

Tremendous Tuck Boxes – 17th February & 19th February

Need a special place to keep your stash of chocolate? Then this workshop is for you! Find out about Roald Dahl’s love of chocolate and hear tales of Dahl’s school tuck shop, called The Grubber. Then make your own special box to keep your favourite treats in using some quirky junk craft material. Times: 17th February: 11.30am, 12.30pm, 2pm and 3pm. 19th February: 11am, 12noon, 1pm, 2pm, 3pm and 4pm. Cost: £3 per participant plus Museum entry.

Crackling Clay Badges – 20th February

Get stuck in, and just a little bit messy, with the Museum’s crackling clay workshop. Just like Hogwarts, Roald Dahl’s schools had their own badges and houses. So take a closer look at these, then create your own clay one to take home. Times: 11am, 12noon, 1pm, 2pm, 3pm and 4pm. Cost: £3 per participant plus Museum entry.

Marble Mazes with Science Oxford – 21st February

Roll on up for one of Science Oxford’s all-time most popular and addictive challenges! At this workshop budding engineers will harness the forces of friction and gravity to design their own marble maze. So use a range of materials to work out how to make a marble roll as slowly as possible down a slope, without getting stuck along the way. It’s a fantastic activity for developing problem-solving skills in a really fun and creative way that adults can get stuck into as well. Strictly for ages 6 years and over. Times: 11am and 12.30pm. Cost: £3 per participant plus Museum entry.

Wacky Racers with Science Oxford – 21st February

Budding engineers can design and build a model car to test out on the Museum’s course. Next find out how far and fast it will go powered by a rubber band. Then see whether they can test and adapt their design to improve the car’s performance. This engaging workshop from Science Oxford is just as much fun for accompanying adults. Suitable for ages 7 years and over. Time: 2.30pm. Cost: £4.50 per participant plus Museum entry.

Crackling Clay Badges – 22nd February

Get stuck in, and just a little bit messy, with the Museum’s crackling clay workshop. Just like Hogwarts, Roald Dahl’s schools had their own badges and houses. So take a closer look at these and then create your own clay one to take home. Times: 11am, 12noon, 1pm, 2pm, 3pm and 4pm. Cost: £3 per participant plus Museum entry.

Wonka’s Wrapper – 23rd February

Become a chocolate bar inventor as you dream up the best chocolate bar ever. Then design a word-class wrapper for it. Also, along the way, you’ll learn about Roald Dahl’s love of chocolate – including what his favourite chocolate bars were. Times: 11.30am, 12.30pm, 2pm and 3pm. Cost: £3 per participant plus Museum entry.

Mini Norwegian Landscapes – 24th February

Make a brilliant 3D landscape inspired by Roald Dahl’s childhood trips to Norway. Use lots of marvellous materials to fill your own tray; make tremendous trees out of twigs or shimmering lakes out of cellophane. Or be inspired by your childhood memories to create your own special scene – anything goes! Times: 11.30am, 12.30pm, 2pm and 3pm. Cost: £3 per participant plus Museum entry.
