In partnership with VeteransCan, the Museum is humbled to display portraits of 11 deceased Gurkha soldiers
The Gurkha Museum Peninsula Barracks, Romsey Road, Winchester
In partnership with VeteransCan, the Museum is humbled to display portraits of 11 deceased Gurkha soldiers before they are gifted to their next of kin or nominated recipient. Veteran artist Kev Wills painted the portraits of all 457 British military personnel killed during operations in Afghanistan.
The Brigade of Gurkhas lost 15 officers and soldiers during operations in Afghanistan between 2001 and 2021. In partnership with VeteransCan, The Gurkha Museum Trust is honoured to be the temporary custodians of 11 of the deceased Gurkha soldiers’ portraits.
Artist Kev Wills, veteran, painted the portraits of all 457 British military personnel killed during the deployment to Afghanistan. He is giving each portrait to the soldiers’ next of kin. With four of the portraits already presented to the families, the final 11 portraits will be delivered in 2025 on a road trip involving Nepal and India.
The portraits will be on display at The Gurkha Museum this summer and autumn for friends and visitors to view.
Britain's Brigade of Gurkhas is a unique organisation within today's modern British Army and the Gurkha Museum is the only museum to record its history.
