Celebrate World Book Day!

Celebrate World Book Day with schools and families across the country on Thursday 2nd March 2023!

With thousands of events, activities and partnerships across the country, every child can have the opportunity to discover a love of reading.

The aim of World Book Day is to “see more children, from all backgrounds, developing a life-long habit of reading for pleasure and benefitting from the improved life chances this brings them'”.

There is a selection of exciting online events for this year’s World Book Day; From ‘EVERYDAY ADVENTURE’ with Sophy Henn exploring her book Lifesize Creepy Crawlies, ‘EVERYDAY ROUTINE’ with Joe Wicks and his book Bedtime for the Burpee Bears, ‘BBC TEACH LIVE LESSON’ where viewers can learn all about World Book Day and more!

Reading is beneficial to all ages, but especially younger children. Here are some of the benefits of encouraging young children to read books:

  • Reading regularly improves your concentration and memory. Reading works as a mental exercise, which is just as important as physical exercise!
  • Reading helps to improve vocabulary expansion and increases your writing skills! Improving communication skills is crucial for young children. It is something they will carry for the rest of their lives.
  • Enhances your knowledge of subjects. When reading a book, you can pick up nuggets of information you may not have already known and can use in the future.
  • Can increase a child’s imagination and creativity. Children can open their minds to new worlds, characters, and ways of living by reading different books.
  • Reading increases a child’s social and emotional development. Sometimes, a child can struggle to understand a stressful or difficult situation but reading teaches children to develop skills which deal with something new through the emotions and experiences of the book’s characters.
