The Royal Air Force Museum Cosford is one of the great places to go with the kids in Shropshire and there is no admission charge! Located only half an hour from the centre of Birmingham and with good motorway access, this wonderful attraction is packed with fun and interest for all ages.
There are over 70 historic aircraft on display, some suspended, in three wartime hangars and within the National Cold War Exhibition. Don’t miss the world’s oldest Spitfire, the Lincoln Bomber and Gnat T1 previously used by the Red Arrows.
Explore the National Cold War Exhibition itself to find the story of the Cold War brought to life in an interesting way with models, audio visual hotspots and Britain’s three V Bombers, the Vulcan, Victor and Valiant.
Both children and adults will be fascinated by Fun ’n’ Flight, the hands-on, interactive gallery designed to help visitors understand how aircraft fly – a great help for those parents trying to answer awkward questions about how planes stay up in the air!
Find out if you can guide a Hercules to a drop zone or check your ability to fly an aeroplane. Hugely popular, the Black Hawk Simulator offers an instant flying experience to up to six people at a time. Choose from rides including Eurofighter Typhoon, Red Arrows and Barnstormers (minimum height requirement applies for rides, confirm availability before visiting).
Don’t miss the 4D Experience in a purpose-built theatre. Brace yourself for dynamic seat movements, smoke effects, water spray and more! One of the experiences, Dog Fight – Red Baron, offers a combat experience with the flying aces of the First World War.
There are children’s events and family activities in school holidays. Charges apply to rides and car park.
Please see the RAF Museum Cosford’s website to find out more before visiting.
We welcome the further easing of lockdown for all attractions on our website but recommend you always check COVID-secure measures before you travel and note changes to booking requirements.
We hope you and your children enjoy wonderful and safe days out this summer.
