Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre

If you are looking for a fun and unforgettable place to go with the kids in Buckinghamshire, then The Roald Dahl Museum is a must to visit. This great little award-winning museum is aimed at 5 to 12-year-olds and their families and is situated in Great Missenden where Roald Dahl lived and wrote.

There are over 40 hands-on displays and activities for families to explore. Discover how Roald Dahl’s amazing characters and stories were inspired by the people, places and events in his own life, see items from Roald Dahl film and TV and pull a powerpose with Matilda in the courtyard! There are also opportunities to dress up as your favourite characters or to take a seat in Roald Dahl’s replica Writing Hut (or peek into the real one).

In the school holidays and at weekends join in with interactive workshops, events and storytelling sessions. Free drop-in craft activities are always on offer. Look out for Titchy Toddlers – the museum’s regular under 5s mornings and Explore Your Way SEND days throughout the year. See the website for special Halloween and Christmas events too.

The Village and Countryside Trail leaflets lead intrepid visitors around Great Missenden and into the woods and fields to see the places that feature in the stories, and regular guided walks lead you there with storytelling stops along the way.

The Filling Station serves a family-friendly range of locally made cakes, treats and snacks as well as speciality tea, coffee and hot chocolate, while the Shop is a treasure-trove of books, toys, gifts and pocket-money items.

All the Museum’s admission tickets are annual passes, so you can visit as many times as you like over 12 months!
