Fishing is an absorbing and exciting pastime. Youngsters often take to it straight away because it is fun, exciting and unpredictable and involves contact with nature. There is an element of mystery; who knows what is under the water? Fishing is a way of finding out.
As a licensed, DBS-checked fishing coach, I can help you and your children get started. Anyone aged 6 or over will enjoy themselves catching fish and learning new skills, with screens and phones forgotten (for a while at least).
My fishing lessons are for groups of up to four people and usually last 3hrs. I teach coarse fishing for species like roach and carp, and fly fishing for trout. All tackle and bait is provided and no experience is necessary. Time flies once the fish start biting!
A typical lesson includes:
– How to assemble the equipment
– Whip fishing close in (a whip is a simple fishing rod ideal for beginners)
– Fishing further out with a rod and reel (including learning to cast)
– How to bring fish in, handle and unhook them
– Explanation of licences and permits
– Angling etiquette and code of conduct
Lessons take place at Rib Valley Fishing Lakes at Westmill Farm near Ware. Other activities on site include golf, archery, high ropes, children’s soft play, arts and crafts etc, so any non-fishing members of your group can find plenty to do. There are toilets close to the fishing lakes. There is also a restaurant so you can get something to eat after your lesson.
The emphasis is on having fun while learning the skills needed to fish independently in future. Why not give it a go?
Once you know how, you and your children can go fishing near home, on holiday or even abroad. It’s a great way for kids to amuse themselves during the school holidays, and it might become an interest that lasts a lifetime.
