Don’t miss this wonderfully child-friendly new exhibition at the Museum of Somerset in Taunton. It’s a lovely way to encourage all ages to learn about and engage with the animals, birds and plants that surround us. The hands-on exhibition is based on Stephen Moss’s book Wild Hares and Hummingbirds: The Natural History of an English Village.
So take the children to enjoy a variety of interactive activities as they follow the changing seasons. Find out about the insects, baby birds and wild flowers of summer and view the residents of the bug hotel. Celebrate autumn by harvesting fungus on the mushroom mound and helping mini beasts and animals find shelter. Get cosy in winter sleep pods and imagine how it must be for creatures sheltering from the elements in winter. Listen to the song of the thrush or dress up as a wild hare.
Finally, look out for Wildlife Wednesdays for ages 3-11 years and other events linking to the exhibition (Wildlife Wednesdays cost £2 per child).
