Put the Fleet Air Arm Museum on your list of places to go in Somerset during the summer holidays. As well as all the usual attractions, there will be a variety of special activities adding to the interest of your visit. So find out what’s on and start planning your family day out.
Budding designers in the family? On every day during August young visitors can design, make and test wild paper plane designs under Concorde. Whose plane will fly the furthest and whose will plummet to the floor? Meanwhile, would-be pilots of all ages will jump at the chance to sit in the cockpit of The Wasp; just head to the Museum Green for sessions 10am-12noon and 1-3pm.
For extra fun, dress up and enter the museum’s Summer Fancy Dress Competition. Either arrive in costume or dress up at any of the stations around the museum. Then choose your pose, take a photo and upload it to social media – see the website to find out more. If your photo is the best, you will win the £50 voucher for the shop.
Why not make the most of your day out by choosing a Falconry Friday Flyday for your outing? Meet the birds of prey from Pitcombe Rock Falconry and watch flying displays on Fridays throughout August (2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd & 30th). Did you know that Leonardo Da Vinci observed birds to try and understand how they fly?
Finally, the first 50 children to visit on a Monday during August will receive 50 Concorde themed goody bags. This is to mark 50 years since Concorde 002’s first flight.
Admission fees cover activities.
