Planning a family day out in South Wales for February half term? Whatever the weather, Cardiff Castle is a great choice. Adding to the usual attractions and activities are three special half-term events for families. So find out what’s on and join in the fun.
Take the kids to meet and learn about a variety of amazing animals. Get close to creatures from habitats such as the rain forest of the Amazon and the Kalahari desert in Africa. Find out about their behaviour and habitats. Timed slots are available at 10.15am, 11.30am, 12.45pm and 2.30pm. Book early to avoid disappointment as these sessions are very popular. Tickets cost £4 per person.
Learn how to sword fight with the Warwick Warriors! Sir Jay and Sir Lewis will be training recruits aged 5-16 years to become full-fledged knights. Starting at 10.30am, training will take place in the atmospheric undercroft and end with a knighting ceremony. Tickets cost £10 for one adult and one child (£5 per additional adult) and cover the workshop and access to the Castle grounds – the Keep, Wartime Tunnels and Battlement Walk. Book well in advance as availability is limited.
How about designing your very own coat of arms and decorating a wooden shield to take home? Head to the Education Centre and get creative. As it’s St David’s Day a shield with a Welsh theme may be appropriate. Sessions available at 10.15am, 12.15pm and 2.30pm; tickets cost £8 for one child and one adult. Book early as workshops may sell out in advance.
